From the Gym to the Streets
Sportswear has definitely gone a long way from being just clothes you see on people who go to the gym to a whole new brand of street style worn by style-savvy people. Everywhere you go, you can see hip sportswear looks being worn by people from young ones to men and women in their forties and above. Not only are these clothes fashionable, they are still functional enough to be worn for sports, the gym and other physical activities. The “sporty” look has become acceptable as staple everyday wear, with even high-profile celebrities and personalities being caught by the paparazzi in stylish sportswear. Even big-name designers have lent their names to major sports brands such as Jeremy Scott and Stella McCartney who have both created limited-edition pieces for a major sports brand.
Sportswear is the perfect mix of comfort meeting function and style. This is something that designers know all too well — people want something more than the usual. People want to wear something that is flattering to the figure that they have been working so hard on inside the gym. The key to making sportswear as streetwear work is knowing which kinds of pieces to mix and match to create a look that works well together. Head to toe sportswear might not look very well if you do not have the eye for style to make the separates work well together. Items such as hoodies and track pants have become signature looks for some well-known personalities because of their comfort and style. This is a far cry from the looks we usually see on stars when they are out for events, parties and especially on the red carpet where they are usually made up and are all dolled-up in formal wear.
Despite sports clothing being more fashionable nowadays, remember that they key is to make sure that you are comfortable. One of the allure of activewear is that they are generally more comfortable to wear because they are meant for sports, exercise, and other physical activities that require ease of movement and comfort.
Though it may tempting to do is, you should also avoid sportswear overkill in planning your outfit. Going head to toe in sportswear for a casual day out may make it look like you just stepped out of the gym instead of someone who is trying to make a cool fashion statement. On the other hand, if you are the kind of person who does not really put health and physical fitness on top of your list, stylish sportswear may motivate you to exercise and workout more. More than just being fashionable, being healthy is a must for everyone, especially as we are now exposed to more harmful elements in the environment than ever.
